"Start Faster" Addon For Firefox Makes Loading Time Faster By 2x

In my quest to get the fastest possible experience with our beloved Firefox web-browser here we have another trick to get upto 2x faster start-up of Firefox on Windows OS, Firefox addon "Start Faster" does exactly what it's name suggests making use of some clever tinkering with core OS "prefetch" functionality to make the web-browser loading time faster.

Author description :

A large proportion of our startup time is spent on loading the Firefox library(.dll, etc) files. This is true on all of our platforms. In my previous post I thought I discovered a way to load the Firefox binaries more efficiently on Windows(bug 627591). Further testing revealed that to not be true in all cases and that the Windows Prefetch service was still killing our startup speed. Microsoft does not seem to provide a way to opt out of the Windows Prefetch ‘service’.
There is a DIY way to opt out of prefetch by gaining Administrator privileges and deleting files out of the prefetch directory. Our is plan is to provide a Windows service to handle Firefox updates (bug 481815). Additionally the service would be able to do useful things like delete prefetch files, defragment Firefox databases(or at least help report on fragmentation levels).

This is all tricky stuff.
In the meantime, to test my theory I wrote a test extension. This is a restartless extension that adds a Windows service and a wrapper executable to significantly speed up Firefox startup after rebooting (oh the irony!). After installing the extension, “Faster Firefox” shortcut on the Desktop should result in up to 2x speed up in Firefox startup. This addon is a rough proof of concept to play with while I bake this functionality into Firefox. Comments, improvements are welcome. Note that launching Firefox by shortcuts other “Faster Firefox” is slower while this extension is installed (this will be fixed once preloading functionality is integrated into Firefox properly). This addon does not yet work on XP because I do not yet have an XP enviroment to test/develop in (patches are welcome).

Wordmark.it is a free and simple web based tool that previews all the fonts it finds on your computer. The service is very easy-to-use. Suppose you have to make a logo for your new website then you just have to open wordmark.it and enter your blog name. It scans your computer for all the available fonts and preview the text (Blog Name) in fonts installed on your computer all at once. Look at the below image.

The preview size can be adjusted and you can also see it in positive and negative. You can pick the ones you like and filter them out from the rest to fine tune you selection. Now I’m going to use this tool whenever I’ll need to make a new logo for my websites. This tool will make the lives of designers a bit better.

(i)  autoexec.bat File is default hidden file so find this by enabling view hidden files and folders option.

(ii) You cannot subst network drives

(iii) You cannot see this drive in Disk management.

Create,Send,View Result For Your Own Polls In Outlook

One of the handiest features in Outlook is the ability to send a poll to people in your contact list.  Not only do you receive a response to your question from each individual, but Outlook even tabulates the results for you.

This means you can send email invitations for a dinner party Of course, there are more practical business purposes too, like asking a group of employees how many of them need help with a project.  The possibilities are endless.

Sending a Poll :-

Outlook 2007 :-

Open Outlook.  Click New and then Message. In the window that opens, click the Options tab.  Towards the middle of this window, click the button that says Use Voting Buttons.

A drop down menu appears.  You can choose several answer possibilities, such as approve/reject, yes/no, yes/no/maybe, or create a custom answer.  In our example, the question is Are you coming to dinner?, thus a yes/no/maybe answer is appropriate. 

Address your message to the appropriate people in your contact list.  Make sure to ask the question, either in the subject line or in the body of the email.  Click Send. 

  

Outlook 2003:- 

Open Outlook.  Click New and then Message. In the window that opens, click the Options now message option window open Then Find Voting and Tracing Options. click check box use voting buttons then You can choose several answer possibilities, such as approve/reject, yes/no, yes/no/maybe, or create a custom answer.

 

Address your message to the appropriate people in your contact list.  Make sure to ask the question, either in the subject line or in the body of the email.  Click Send. 

Answering the Poll :-

Everyone on your list receives a message with your question and a special option to vote just above the time sent stamp.

When the recipient clicks the Click here to vote link, they then select from your list of possible answers.

A window appears asking if they want to send the message now with just the vote, or edit the response.  If a more extensive reply is needed, your recipient can make their reply by simply selecting Edit the response before sending.

Tabulating the Results :-

After your recipients have replied, all that is left is to tabulate the results.  To do this, go to your Sent Items folder and select your original message with the vote question.  It has a special Iconbeside it.

In the message, click the Tracking box with Above Icon.

A new window will open showing the results of your poll.

Note: This voting function only works if your recipients are using Outlook. When tested in a web-based email account, the voting links did not appear.

Create,Edit,Download and Insert a Flash Slide Show For Your Any Website ( Its Free)

Photo slide-shows are great additions to most Website. But, these fast-loading shows are a pain to make without the proper, expensive Flash programming software and a bit of programming knowledge.

One quick and easy way to make one of these shows without any knowledge or software investment is by using a Web service like Frobee.com.

After navigating to Frobee.com, click Add Photos to begin making your slide show. Select the first photo you wish to add and click Open. Once the first photo uploads, an new window will appear showing your first photo with the default transition.

Keep clicking Add Photos and opening your pictures until all the photos you want in the slide-shows have uploaded.

Once uploaded, you can then control how the photos display in the slide-show. Start by choosing a transition. All of our favorite fancy transitions are listed, from the standard Blinds to shapes like stars and hearts. You must choose a transition for each photo on your list. Click each photo to choose a transition.

Next, choose how you want the photos to display. If they are all the same height and width, these options do not matter much. Otherwise, you must decide if the smaller photos should fit the show’s width, height, or just plain fit, as well as the axis position in the show. Click on each individual picture and make your selections.

Click the Settings link the left of the screen.

The setting screen allows you to choose the slide-show size in pixels. Determine the size you want, then click Apply to see a preview.

When you have made all of your selections and you are satisfied with the preview of your slide-show, click the big green Save button on the left side of the screen.

You are redirected to a page containing a zip file download the file. Within the zip file is the SWF file and sample HTML code. Use these files to upload the slide-show to your Web site.

Frobee is easy enough for even the most novice Web site builders to use for slide-show making. As long as you know how to upload the SWF File once it is created, the entire process, from uploading photos to placing the show on your Web site, should only take 5-10 minutes.

Besides the size, the settings also allow you to select a background for the show and to add captions. Click Apply to view your changes.
